Meanwhile in Bled, 100 days to go will be celebrated with the BMW Eco Regatta. This regatta has 32 successful Slovenian companies rowing for charity on 21 May, with Lake Bled, the home of the 2011 World Rowing Championships, serving as the venue.

The regatta works by having three employees join in a boat with one experienced rower. Former Olympians for Slovenia Denis Zvegelj and Milan Jansa as well as many of the current top Slovenian rowers will play their part in joining the teams. The company managers will act as coxswains and races will be over a 200m distance.

Money raised from this event will go to the 32 Eco-Schools that are involved in the World Rowing Championships. Eco-Schools are schools throughout Europe that follow a programme encouraging school children to learn more about environmental issues in their education. These schools will be learning about their natural environment in connection with rowing and the 2011 World Rowing Championships.

Also this month, the planting of trees will continue at Lake Bled with the target by the end of the month being 160 at Lake Bled and another 160 at the 32 Eco-Schools involved in the World Rowing Championships. The planting of these trees is funded by the companies involved in the Eco Regatta and a native endangered Slovenian species, the ‘Skors’, has been chosen for the planting.

The 2011 World Rowing Championships start on 28 August and go until 4 September. Tickets are now on sale at a discounted rate until 1 June 2011.
