Finska-Bezerra Withdraws as Reps Begin

World lightweight single sculls champion Laila Finska-Bezerra and the German men's coxed pair have withdrawn from the FISA World Rowing Championships for medical reasons, FISA officials announced this morning (Tuesday).

Both crews were due to race in Group A repechages, now underway in Lucerne.

Finska-Bezerra seemed off form in heats on Monday, finishing fifth, more than 15 seconds off the winning pace. The German coxed pair finished last in their heat.

Yesterday afternoon's thunder and torrential rain have cleared to reveal a partly cloudy day with a gentle tail wind.
