In a strategic move the conference will allow coaches to not only learn and discuss the latest in coaching topics, but they will also get the opportunity to look over the rowing regatta venue for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and the 2015 World Rowing Junior Championships.

Topics include ‘What makes a successful coach of women,’ coaching para-rowers, talent development in sport, tapering in endurance sport as well as an update on the Rio Olympics and a panel discussion on ‘out of the boat training.’ Speakers come from coaching programmes around the world and include Gianni Postiglione (GRE), Morten Espersen (IRL), Josy Verdonkschot (NED), Christine Gosse (FRA), Mike Spracklen (RUS) and Premsyl Panuska (CZE). Also present is the Rio 2016 rowing competition manager, Colleen Orsmond.

As has become a tradition, there will be a Coach in the Spotlight (still to be confirmed at this stage).

Usually held separately, this conference will act as a joint Senior and Junior World Rowing Coaches Conference and is thus being run jointly by World Rowing’s Competitive Rowing Commission and the Youth Commission.  It is being hosted by the Rio Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games and the Brazilian Rowing Confederation.

The conference will take place from 6-9 November 2014 and will be held at the Windsor Barra Hotel in front Rio’s Barra de Tijuca beach. The final day of the conference will be reserved for a chance to inspect the Olympic rowing regatta venue and the Olympic village.

The online registration form is available here and the deadline for registration is 20 October.
