All eyes were on what the two German crews could do in the face of Poland’s Magdalena Fularczyk and Natalia Madaj. Fularczyk and Madaj won the Bled International Regatta two days ago and they are currently ranked as World silver medallists. At the start there was nothing between the Poles and the two German crews with the Czech Republic also very much on the pace.

Going through the middle of the race Fularczyk and Madaj were still being matched by Germany1 of Julia Lier and Mareike Adams. Lier comes to the double from being in the World Champion German women’s quad last year while Adams raced in the double in 2014. Poland and Germany1 continued their battle at the head of the field which helped them move away from the rest.

At the line Fularczyk and Madaj remained just in front with Lier and Adams having to settle for silver. In bronze medal  position was China1.

Gold – Magdalena Fularczyk – Poland

This race gives us really good prognostic for season. The most important for us is to qualify for the Olympics, but to race in our city with friends and family for Europeans will be great.

Silver – Julia Lier – Germany1

We are back in the same boat as in the 2013 World Champs. It works really well between us. We had only 7 days of training in the double and we’re not sure what is next for us.

B-final

A two-boat final between Croatia and Moldova had Croatia recording the fastest time leading into this race. Moldova tried to keep up but were outclassed by Marcela Milosevic and Karla Milosevic of Croatia.
