A-final

In yesterday’s test race, only two seconds separated these two crews and off the start today, it didn’t look to be any different. Italy and Ukraine both have developed para-rowing programmes and often do well in this boat class.

Through the halfway point, the crews were striking level with a slight advantage to Ukraine. Ukraine gave a push and took a length. Into the final sprint, Italy gave it one last challenge, but they ran out of water. Ukraine held on to the gold.

Results: UKR, ITA

Olexandra Yankova (s), Ukraine, gold
“The race was very hard because the Italian team are so good. We’ve only been in this boat for four months, we came third at Gavirate and we hope to continue these results at the World Rowing Championships.”

Greta Muti, Italy, silver
“It was a pleasure to come race here again. We think we’ve closed a gap racing against them but it was close. We tried to have a good start and settle into the rhythm. We’ll have some meetings between now and Plovdiv to improve.”
