A-Final

The Netherlands and Ukraine made up this two-boat race. This race looked to be a foregone conclusion. Annika van der Meer and Corne de Koning of the Netherlands are unbeaten. They won the 2017 and 2018 World Championships and they own the World Best Time. The duo also raced separately in their respective singles races yesterday and both of them won. Ukraine’s crew of Svitlana Bohuslavska and Iaroslav Koiuda is a new combination.

Bohuslavska raced in the single at World Rowing Cup II last month and finished third. He also raced at last year’s World Rowing Championships in the double with another rowing partner and won bronze.

On the race course the Dutch crew kept their stroke long and strong and moved further and further away from Ukraine as the race progressed. There was no challenge for the Dutch and they were able to enjoy racing in front of the appreciative home crowd.

Results: NED, UKR

Annika Van Der Meer (b), Netherlands, Gold
“That was so much fun! We worked hard on our technique in these conditions so it means a lot to have won here in front of our friends and family!

Iaroslav Koiuda (s), Ukraine, Silver
“There are strong conditions out there and the waves are quite high, but in general we are quite happy with our race. We’ll now prepare for our next race which will be at the World Rowing Championships.”
