This is the only para-rowing boat class that is not in the Paralympic Games and it is also a rather new boat class to the world of rowing. Normally para-rowers race over 1000m, but these crews were doing the full 2000m course. In the race for lanes earlier in the week, France’s Guylaine Marchand and Fabien Saint-Lannes took a very easy win so it was not a surprise to see them out in the lead today. The French margin increased as the race continued and at the line they had finished in a very respectable time of 8:38. Expect to see these crews again in the future.

Results: FRA, AUT, RUS, GER

Guylaine Marchand (b), Fabien Saint-Lannes (s), Gold, France
“We’ve been training together for three years now with the Paralympic team in France. It’s great for the visibility of the sport to race the same distance here as everyone else.”

Johanna Beyer (b), Silver, Austria
“I train out of CRI in Boston, so I came and trained with Rainer in Italy. It was hard for us to line up at the start, but it was a great experience. We are so happy to be here.”

Evgenii Borisov (s), Bronze, Russia
“I was one of the athletes to really push for us to race over the same race distance as the other athletes. For the future I hope we get more Paralympic rowing disciplines.”
