Moving away to a large lead, Horrie left the battle for second to go on between Russia’s Alexey Chuvashev and Tom Aggar of Great Britain. Aggar had a very small advantage going through the 500m mark before Aggar showed his superior stamina and managed to push in front. Aggar is the 2008 Paralympic Champion in this event while Chuvashev took bronze at the London 2012 Paralympic Games and also bronze last year at the World Rowing Championships.

Coming into the close of the race Horrie rated 33 and looked very comfortable as he took his boat home to a gold medal. Aggar held on to silver with Chuvashev taking bronze.

Erik Horrie (AUS)
It‘s an absolute honour to be World Champion again this year.

Silver – AGGAR, Tom  (GBR)
I was out to put Erik under pressure and was pleased to beat the Russian. If you had told me I was going to win a silver, I wouldn’t have believed you.

Bronze – CHUVASHEV, Alexey (RUS)
The race went fine, I felt really good after it.
