The Russians is the European Champions and they’ve come through to this final with the fastest qualifying time from the heats two days ago. The Russian crew includes two-time Olympian Nikita Morgachev. They continued to lead through the middle of the race with an ever-increasing margin. Only Estonia and Lithuania looked to have a chance of catching the Russians. Where was Germany? Back in fourth place, the Olympic Champions Germany were struggling in these conditions.

Meanwhile at the head of the field, Russia was under threat from Estonia. The Estonians had picked up the pace and were doing some major damage. Estonia finished fourth at the London Olympics and they are hoping that this year in Rio will be their chance. Lithuania also came through at the end, overtaking Russia to win silver. The Russians held on to bronze.
