The British men's four wins at the 2015 European Rowing Championships in Poznan, Poland.

Great Britain has prioritised their men’s eight this year, leaving the four with the next best rowers. It didn’t seem to matter as the British won their heat two days ago and also recorded the fastest time of the heats. With that confidence, the British took off in the lead over the Netherlands. Durant, Ransley, Sinclair and Reilly-O’Donnell of Great Britain then began to move away from the fleet with Belarus moving up in the Netherlands.

In the second half of the race Greece began to move. The Greeks are known to have a strong finish and the question was, did the British know about it? They must have. As Greece came flying towards the line, Great Britain did their bit to defend the leading spot with Spain and Belarus right on their tails. Great Britain crossed the line in first with nothing between the next three crews. Spain had missed out on a medal by just 0.09 seconds.

Results: GBR, GRE, BLR, ESP, NED, GER

Tom Ransley (GBR) – Gold

This race meant a lot for us. It’s a Championship and we just wanted to win. We have a good tradition and a huge knowledge in Great Britain that we use in the four.

Georgios Tziallas (GRE) – Silver

I am very proud of this medal. We got two medals in a row at the European Championships. These last two years have been really tough for us.

B-final

The Serbians had done well at the World Rowing Cup in Bled when they took the bronze medal. Today they raced in the lead in this B-final. The Serbians may have thought they had it wrapped up but then France, rating 44, pulled out a massive sprint to cross the line first.
