A superb race by Belarus in yesterday’s heats saw them record the fastest qualifying time. Today, however, it was Serbia that was looking like the crew to beat. Going through the middle of the race Belarus had caught up to Serbia and were pushing into the lead with every stroke. Pashevich, Sharlap, Mihal and Lialin of Belarus had really begun to move and in the final sprint Belarus moved to a 39 stroke rate. Then Spain came racing through putting Serbia’s medal under threat.  By just 0.24 of a second, Spain had won the silver medal.

At the line Belarus took the gold, Spain the silver and Serbia the bronze.

Results: BLR, ESP, SRB, FRA, GER, POL

Gold – Ihar Pashevich – Belarus

The best part of the race was the second half. Now we will go to training camp in Minsk for two weeks before heading to Poznan.

Silver – Antonio Guzman del Castillo – Spain

We are a group of 6 and we changed each race during the winter. We’ve been in this combination now for 1 month. We train in Seville.

Bronze – Nikola Stojic – Serbia

We just row for 10 days now we had a good start and a good race all across the course. We hadn’t had any bad strokes. We will stay with this team until Europeans and I think we have a lot of room for improvements. After Europeans we will decide was to do for the worlds.
