So far they had put themselves in a good position after winning their heat earlier in the week. Today the Morozova and Aleksieiev faced winners of the other heat, the new Australian crew of Jeremy McGrath and Kathleen Murdoch.

McGrath and Murdoch got out very well at the start and led through most of the first 500m. But it was soon a race about Ukraine as Morozova and Aleksieiev used their long, relatively low rating powerful strokes to own this race. This left the battle to go on for second. Australia’s early power had paid dividends as they came through to take silver with Guylaine Marchand and Antoine Jesel of France earning bronze.

Results: UKR, AUS, FRA, GER, BRA, ITA

Gold – Morozova, Kateryna (UKR)
We didn’t know what to expect, the race was not easy, so we are very happy.

Silver- MCGRATH Jeremy (AUS)
I’m really happy now! It was a really hard race. We’ve had competition the whole way and the last 500m was really tiring.

Bronze – JESEL, Antoine (FRA)
The Australians has a good start and we had to adapt with new tactics. It is a great medal, my first medal.
