Today, Great Britain used a 51 stroke rate to get into the front at the start. The high stroke rate worked as the British boat moved away from the United States in second.

Going through the middle of the race Great Britain held a solid lead with United States in a rather comfortable second spot and South Africa following in third. Then, last year’s silver medallists, Italy started to really move. With Great Britain crossing the line in first, the United States earned silver and Italy charged through to take bronze.

Results: GBR, USA, ITA, RSA, BRA, FRA

Gold – JAMES, Oliver (GBR)
We are pretty relieved, we rowed to plan. We set off hard and kept the gas going until the end.

Silver – HANSEN, Daniel (USA)
In the middle of the race, I thought wow we are doing it, we are in the middle of it! I’m so proud to be part in one of the youngest crews in history. I just wish we got the gold.

Bronze – AGLIOTI, Lucillia  (ITA)
It was hard after 500m, we lost some distance from GBR and we kept a good position from the RSA.
