The fastest boat from yesterday’s heats was Poland, They sat in the centre lane alongside Elisabeth Woerner and Maaike Head of the Netherlands who had won their heat. But it was China1 that jumped out the quickest at the start with Woerner and Head in hot pursuit.  Cuiming Chen and Feihong Pan of China1 remained in first by just a bow ball as they were paced by the Netherlands. In the Bled International Regatta two days ago Chen and Pan finished second and it looked like today they were going to settle with nothing less than gold.

Then Poland’s Weronika Deresz and Martyna Mikolajczak began to move up and challenge the leaders. This was turning into a fight to the line. The best sprint turned out to be Chen and Pan with Deresz and Mikolajczak outdoing the Dutch to secure silver with Woerner and Head settling for bronze.

Results: CHN1, POL, NED, CHN2, AUT, SUI

Gold – Feihong Pan – China1

Bled is so beautiful. Tomorrow we go back to China, but we will come back to Europe to race in Varese.

Silver – Weronika Deresz – Poland

I screamed ‘GO?’ to call the final sprint. I noticed we passed the Netherlands and I hoped the course was 2,100 metres long so we could also pass the Chinese.

Bronze – Elisabeth Woerner – Netherlands

Our secret plan was to have a good start, find a nice flow with two pushes somewhere in the race and then to push hard to the line.
