Peter Galambos, Hungary, gold
“I was really happy with the first half, but after 1000m the other two guys were really pushing. I had to respond, but I am really pleased I was able to come through and finish.”

Michael Schmid, Switzerland, silver
“It was a bit cold at the beginning because of the rain. But as soon as it started, I focused on my race. At the end I sprinted for the win, but it was not enough. The next step is European Championships and then we’ll see which crews we do.”

Niels Van Zandweghe, Belgium, bronze

“I was ecstatic. Yesterday was my best race, but I think I did good today. It’s good to stay with the older rowers during the race. I don’t plan to stay in the single, right now my partner is injured. We hope to be back in Lucerne together.”

B-Final

Slovenia’s Rajko Hrvat and Serbia’s Milos Stanojevic both just missed out on making the final. They are both accomplished rowers and it shows the calibre of this boat class seeing them in the B-final. Hrvat made the best of it and after overtaking Stanojevic at the start, Hrvat held the lead through to the finish. Stanojevic took the pressure off towards the end and let the race get away.
