Podium of the lightweight men's eight
Silver medallists Italy, gold medallists Germany and bronze medallists Turkey pose for the photo after the medal ceremony of the at the 2014 World Rowing Championships in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

The United States had a slight edge but this did not last long as Italy, guided by coxswain, Gianluca Barattolo did a push that gave them a smidgen of a lead. In one lane over from Italy, German coxswain Frederik Boehm was watching that push and they were ready. This side by side fight saw Italy and Germany start to inch away from the rest of the field.

The final sprint was now in sight with Germany on fire. Boehm was driving his boat home at an incredible pace. Meanwhile Italy had found themselves under threat from Turkey. As Germany crossed the line in first there was nothing between Italy and Turkey. Italy had held on to silver. Turkey, in third, however were the ones that were really celebrating. Turkey had made it to the medals podium.
