Kafue benefits from TECHO fundraiser
World Rowing's clean water initiative, the Kafue River & Rowing Centre has benefited from Royal Ahrend company, TECHO to the tune of EUR 20,000 thanks to a recent fundraiser.
TECHO recently organised a benefit evening in support of the Kafue project at its showroom in Prague, Czech Republic. The event was attended by Olympic Champion in the women's single sculls, Mirka Knapkova and Olympic silver medallist and current World Champion in the men's single sculls, Ondrej Synek. Other Olympians were also in attendance.
Royal Ahrend is an official supplier to the Kafue River & Rowing Centre, an initiative by the World Rowing Federation (FISA) and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) to highlight the importance of clean water.
The Kafue River & Rowing Centre is being created to be a unique multi-purpose facility combining a water management research unit and a boat house for rowers. Companies that cooperate with the TECHO group also pledged their support for achieving these objectives. Together they contributed the EUR 20,000.
“It is both a great honour and a responsibility to be associated with this fantastic project, which will help improve the availability of clean water in Africa. As rowers, water is our second home and we are happy that the rowing community can help the World Wide Fund for Nature provide solutions to these challenges," said Knapkova.
“The water management research unit and boathouse, Kafue River & Rowing Centre, is a huge step in the direction of sustainable development, not just in Zambia, but also around the globe. Royal Ahrend and TECHO are aware of the importance of social responsibility with respect to natural resources, and as a member of FISP (Furniture Industry Sustainability Programme) we employ environmentally responsible business practices. It is therefore natural for us to provide support for this joint initiative of the International Rowing Federation and the World Wide Fund for Nature in the fight for clean water on the African continent, where TECHO has long been active,” said Jiří Kejval, Managing Director and Chairman of the Board of TECHO.
TECHO is one of the leading European producers and suppliers of office furniture and Royal Ahrend will supply the Kafue Centre with the necessary furniture and furnishings as well as expertise.
