With the help of Paralympic Champion Tom Aggar and a newly formed four, Great Britain finished the regatta at the top of the medals table overall. Hosts Italy finished second overall at the end of the two days of racing which included finals on both days for the four boat classes.

In wet conditions teams from Portugal, Spain, Germany, Russia, Poland, Great Britain, Ireland and Italy raced at one of the few regattas dedicated solely to adaptive rowers. This was a chance for coaches to get the 2010 season underway and to test different team boat combinations. It is the first step on the road to selection for the 2010 World Rowing Championships in New Zealand at the end of October.

Tom Aggar confirmed his dominance coming into 2010 with wins both days in the arms and shoulders men’s single (ASM1x). After the first day of racing Aggar told GB Rowing Team News, “It's good to get the first score on the board for the season after a hard winter of training. Conditions were a little bit tricky today but I went out hard and by 500m I'd got a reasonable lead and I just sat on it.” In both finals Aggar held off fellow countryman, Andy Houghton who finished second ahead of Spain’s Lekuona De Anti.

Great Britain also fared well in the legs, trunk and arms mixed coxed four (LTAMix4+). The crew of Kelsie Gibson, James Roe, Ryan Chamberlain, Naomi Riches and coxswain Rhiannon Jones won both days against strong crews from Ireland, Italy and Germany. The British crew was described as ‘experimental’ as it contained two new members, Gibson and Chamberlain.

In second place, Ireland look like they have put together a boat that will challenge for the gold medal this season. Karen Cromie, Shane Ryan, Kevin Du Toit, Sarah Caffrey, and coxswain Laura Purdy managed to stay ahead of Italy on both days. The crew includes three members that finished seventh last year at the World Rowing Championships.

Meanwhile Italy tried a new line up in the LTAMix4+ with a crew that included the amazing Paola Protopapa who has just returned from the Winter Paralympic Games in Vancouver.

The trunk and arms mixed double sculls (TAMx2x) was won both days by Italians Daniele Stefanoni and Stefania Toscano. Stefanoni and Toscano have been racing together since the Paralympic Games and finished fourth last year at the World Rowing Championships.
