Mia Croonquist of the USA’s Junior Women’s Four at the 2011 Junior World Rowing Championships in Eton, the United Kingdom

WR: My sporting hero is…
MC: Mia Hamm, the soccer player of the USA. She is a great athlete and she has the same name like me.

WR: I row because…
MC: I just love water and being on it. And I love being connected with my team when everyone pushes together. I would never dare to give up and I know they wouldn`t either.

WR: My goal in rowing is….?
MC: Being here at the World Junior Championships has actually been my goal. I didn`t expect to come that far in such a short time and I am so happy to be here. If I consider the future the Olympics might be a goal but that is just so far away. I will just keep rowing and see, what comes.

WR: I’m most relaxed when…?
MC: I`m the most relaxed directly after the race, when you are sitting back on it and knowing how it all went.

WR: My least favourite training session is…
MC: I think 750m race pieces are awkward. They are not like 500m where you know you have to give everything immediately but they are not like a proper 1000m or 2000m race either. I never know how to race them.

WR: What is your favourite subject….
MC: I like history.

WR: I’m motivated by….
MC: Knowing that at the end of this you know what you have worked for. I am here for a reason, right? And my team-mates motivate me. I would never let them down.
