FISA appoints new executive, council and commission members

The Executive Committee has filled a number of casual vacancies in accordance with Article 52 of the FISA Statutes:

Patrick Rombaut (Belgium) will replace Australia’s John Boultbee as a member of the FISA Executive Committee from 1 January 2015. This is a casual vacancy appointment that runs until a Congress decision on 7 September 2015 at the FISA Congress. Rombaut has chaired the Umpiring Commission and been a member of Council since 2001.

Lee Spear from New Zealand will replace Australia’s John Coates as Continental Representative for Oceania. This is a casual vacancy appointment until the term expires 31 December 2016. Spear is closely involved with the development of the sport of rowing in the Pacific. He is an international umpire and was competition director for the 2010 World Rowing Championships at Lake Karapiro. Outside of rowing, Spear is a district court judge in New Zealand.

Filling casual vacancies on the Athletes Commission are Lawrence Ndlovu (RSA) and Moran Samuel (ISR). They will serve out the existing terms until 31 December 2015.

Lawrence Ndlovu, South Africa’s 2012 Olympic Champion in the lightweight men’s four has replaced James Lindsay-Fynn from Great Britain. Ndlovu will be representing lightweight male rowers. As well as rowing competitively Ndlovu has been working as a rowing coach at school level since 2008 and is considered an inspiration to many young South African rowers.

Representing para-rowers, Moran Samuel from Israel has replaced Perle Bouge from France. Samuel was a professional basketball player and coach before being injured. In addition to competing in the para women’s single sculls (ASW1x) since 2011, she has also been a wheelchair basketball player. Outside of rowing Samuel is a paediatric and child development physical therapist.

The FISA Council made appointments to the Competitive Rowing Commission, the Events Commission, the Masters Commission, the Para-Rowing Commission, the Umpiring Commission and the Events Promotion Commission. These four-year appointments are from 1 January 2015 until 31 December 2018, or until 31 December of the year in which the appointee turns 65. The country codes refer to the nominating national federation.
