The year that was … women’s quadruple sculls

Rowing history was written in the 2016 women’s quadruple sculls on the Rio Olympic podium.

Germany won its first Olympic gold since the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens.  It was the first gold for Ann-Kathrin Thiele, Carina Baer, Julia Lier and Lisa Schmidla and the first Olympic medal and Olympic debut for Lier and Schmidla.  Silver went to The Netherlands with the Dutch winning their first-ever Olympic medal in this event.  Also Poland took its first-ever Olympic medal in the women’s quad by winning bronze.
