Martino Goretti, Marcello Miani, Andrea Caianiello and Daniele Danesin of Italy celebrate their gold medals on the podium of the lightweight men’s four at the 2011 European Rowing Championships in Plovdiv (BUL) on Sunday, September 18.

The three day conference opens with a look at women in coaching and how to promote them. FISA council member and chair of FISA’s women’s rowing commission, Tricia Smith will be presenting along with Marika Fenley from the University of Lausanne. The main feature on the 11 November is the Methodology for high performance training. This day includes coach in the spotlight, Gianni Postiglione who is currently the head coach of the Greek Rowing Federation. There is also a chance to learn from other sports in terms of methodology, especially from cross-country skiing and kayaking.

On the third day of presentations, ‘biomechanics an aid to performance’ is highlighted with well-known presenter, Dr Valery Kleshnev and also Professor Dr Klaus Mattes from the University of Hamburg. Dr Mattes is also well versed the German system of rowing.

The final day will be held aside for a sightseeing tour which includes a look at the Australian ‘European’ training centre in Varese. The participants will also get the opportunity to see the venue for next year’s European Rowing Championships.
