The 2011 World Rowing Under 23 Championships will be remembered best for the setting of new World Best Times – one after another, after another. The championships, held in Amsterdam, the Netherlands laid on cool weather but with speedy tail wind conditions that played into the hands of the technically talented.

Under relentless pouring rain and a tricky cross-tailwind, the Blue Riband events of the World Rowing Under 23 Championships got underway. Strong single scullers battled their way down the course, Germany's Hubert Trzybinski recording yet another World Best Time, whilst Canada, New Zealand and the United States of America went head to head for the women's eight title. The final race of the day, the men's eight, gave the crowd the usual drama, but it was the United States of America who prevailed over the field.
Tears, tulips and World Best Times at the Under-23s

Choosing an extra layer of clothes for racing was the order of the day as finals got under way at the 2011 World Rowing Under 23 Championships in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. With cool temperatures, intermittent rain and a stiff tail wind, the rowers in these finals had to prove their prowess in adapting to these conditions.
World Best Times fell like the rain on the Bosbaan regatta course as crews took advantage of the tail wind conditions. As much as nine seconds got knocked off World Best Times to set the new standard and medals and tulips were handed out to enthusiastic and emotional winners.
