2015 Asian Rowing Championships, Beijing, China

The 16th Asian Rowing Championships are underway.  Hosted by the Chinese Rowing Association Organising Committee, teams have so far been racing in perfect conditions with clear skies and light winds. The championships have seen the inclusion for the first time of para-rowing with the inclusion of both the para men’s and women’s single sculls boat classes. Korea took gold medals on day 2 of the competition in both para boat classes.

The Asian Rowing Federation (ARF) are making the most of having so many Asian nations in one place, to promote Asian rowing, coach education and para-rowing. The 2015 World Rowing Youth Coaches Conference will be held immediately following the championships.

Prior to the event, the ARF also hosted a one-month training camp at Qiandao Lake where 32 athletes and coaches attended from eight countries. The para-rowers training camp notably included Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Thailand and the United Arab Emirates, all of whom took part in such a training camp for the first time.
