Tom Aggar from Great Britain celebrate his victory in the AS Men’s Single Sculls at the 2010 Rowing World Championships at Lake Karapiro, New Zealand.

The former World Best Time was set by Aggar in 2009 and the new time is one and a half seconds faster.

Aggar raced in tail wind conditions using his powerful upper body strokes to dominate his heat.  After the race Aggar commented that going after a new World Best Time was not on his mind. “I was pushing pretty hard at the start,” said Aggar, “but after the 500m mark I decided to ease it off a bit.”

Aggar’s win puts him directly into the final to be raced on Thursday.

The Canadian LTA Mixed Coxed Four also set a World Best Time. Anthony Theriault, Meghan Montgomery, Victoria Nolan, David Blair and coxswain Laura Comeau finished their heat in a time of 3:21.22 setting a World Best Time straight after Great Britain had just broken the World Best Time in their heat. When Canada and Great Britain meet in the final there is no doubt racing will be hot.
