Racing opened with Friday’s heats in the AW1x (arms only women’s single) followed by the men’s equivalent. Then the TA2x (trunk and arms double) took to the water followed by the LTAMX4+ (legs, trunk and arms mixed coxed fours) for blind rowers.

Getting directly through to the final of the AW1x was Great Britain and the United States. Australia’s defending champion Dominic Monypenny went straight through to the final from the AM1x event along with the United States.

Defending champions the United States (Scott Brown and Angela Madsen) proved to be the strongest in the TA2x heat along with Poland from the other heat. Great Britain and the Netherlands advanced directly from the LTAMX4+ heats.

In the repechages the top two from each event advanced and Canada’s adaptive programme showed its depth by advancing three boats. Boats from France, Italy, Germany, Greece, Great Britain, Australia and the United States also move forward to the final.

These raced are over 1000 metres and begin with a floating start which added to the excitement as the initial alignment caused many challenges for the athletes and starters alike.
