YOUTH OLYMPIC GAMES

2010 Youth Olympic Champions in Singapore.

Description

The summer Youth Olympic Games are open to 14 to 18 year olds and will feature 26 sports. Each sport will focus on a specific two-year age group, with rowing involving the 17 to 18 year olds.

Besides sport, the Games will stage a whole range of cultural and educational activities. This is why youth athletes are invited to stay on for the whole 12-day duration of the Games, and not just for the duration of their sport competition.

Competition

Bernardo Nannini (b) and Marco di Costanzo of Italy racing their repechage in the Junior Men's Pair at Marina Bay Reservoir during the 2010 Youth Olympic Games in Singapore.

The Youth Olympic Rowing Regatta will be raced over 1,000m on a channel next to the Formula One racing track. The water is partly salty, as it comes from the ocean, but a purification treatment of the water is taking place.
