Seven European Best Times set at the 2014 European Rowing Championships
The much anticipated finals at the 2015 European Rowing Championships at Poznan, Poland did not disappoint. The top European nations gave an indication of how they would rate for 2015 as they raced for European Championship titles. Facing tail wind conditions with some choppy water and cool, but sunny temperatures, the gave it their all with new European Best Times being set in the process.
The weather was challenging for day two at the 2015 European Rowing Championships in Poznan, Poland. A strong cross tail wind caused waves and demanded technical excellence but still a few crabs were spotted. It also meant that times were rather quick as the rowers went through semifinal races in pursuit of a spot in tomorrow's finals. One of the best shows of speed was Damir Martin of Croatia. Martin set a new European Best Time in the men's single sculls with 6:47.35.
In between semifinal racing, the men's quadruple sculls repechage also saw a new European Best Time when Great Britain finished in a time of 5:41.88.
The 2015 European Rowing Championships have begun in Poznan, Poland. Lake Malta was abuzz with crews from 36 European nations as rowers took to the water for the heats.
There were shock results as World Champion men's eight, Great Britain saw themselves pushed into the repechage. Men's quadruple sculls World Champions, Ukraine were also beaten to the line and will have to race in the repechage. This was just a piece of the excitement in this first day of racing.
A very small cross/tail wind greeted the rowers with the wind rising half way through racing and then all but disappearing.
A year ago the European Rowing Championships was a feast of intense competition and new European Best Times. The time has come again for European crews to face each other, this time on Lake Malta in Poznan, Poland.
