The 2014 conference will be held from Thursday 6 to Sunday 9 November 2014 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Over the course of the conference, there will be an opportunity to hear from a range of topical speakers including successful rowing coaches:

  • Coach in the Spotlight – following New Zealand’s amazing year, the Coach in the Spotlight will be Gary Hay, the coach of Emma Twigg (W1x) as well as the LW2x and W2- from Amsterdam
  • A panel of 6 prominent coaches of women’s crews will discuss “What makes a successful coach of women – the myth and the reality”
  • Henk-Jan Zwolle and Rosie Mayglothling from the Competitive Rowing Commission will run a workshop on how to extract and analyse the GPS data from FISA Championships from the FISA Website
  • Coaching Para Rowing and Para Rowing Classification will be explained by Guilherme Soares and Roberto Nahon from Brazil
  • Mike Spracklen, now coaching Russia, and Trent Lawton, the New Zealand Strength and Conditioning expert, will raise different views about the best out of the boat training
  • Canadian Academic Joseph Baker will make a presentation on Talent Identification and Development and the practical aspects of developing talent will be presented by Chuck McDiarmid of Canada
  • The FISA Executive Committee will discuss some of the burning issues of our sport with the coaches present
  • As well as a tour of the Olympic Regatta Course, Rio Competition Manager Colleen Orsmond will update participants on preparations for the FISA Junior World Championships in 2015 and the Olympic Regatta in 2016
