Lightweight men's single of Germany
Jost Schoemann-Finck of Germany races at the 2014 World Rowing Cup II, Aiguebelette, France.

Wang got out in front at the start and by the half way point had opened up a clear water lead over Daniel Lawitzke of Germany One and Jost Schoemann-Finck of Germany Two. Lawitzke is working his way through the ranks of German lightweight rowing and at the European Championships earlier this month, Lawitzke was sixth overall. Lawitzke wasn’t able to catch Wang, but he was able to hold off the more experienced Schoemann-Finck. At the line Wang had retained the World Cup leader bib with Germany filling out the remaining medal spots.

Silver – Daniel Lawitzke (GER)

It was one of my best races. It was a national contest and I was very surprised to beat Jost. It’s a beautiful setting here and I hope to be back next year for the World Champs. I really want to thank my wife and the German army for supporting me.

Bronze – Jost Schoemann-finck (GER)

I raced according to my plan – going hard on the first 500 and the last 500. But all the others did the same! From the start I was in third- I tried everything but am pleased to have held the place.

B-final

Paul O’Donovan of Ireland is part of a renaissance in Irish rowing. He won his heat two days ago but was unlucky in the semifinal to just miss out on racing the A-final. Today O’Donovan started off at the back of the field and inched his way into the lead in the last 500m of the race. O’Donovan showed he had paced the race perfectly by being able to bring on a 36 stroke rate sprint. This pushed Azerbaijan’s Javid Afandiyev into second.
