Youth in Focus – September 2013

The Czech Republic’s Michal Plocek is one very talented oarsman. In his second year of international competition he rowed his way to one of the most sought after prizes in the sport – a junior World Championship title in the men’s single scull. In 2013 Plocek went on to take on the world at the second Samsung World Rowing Cup in Eton Dorney, finishing fifth in his first ever senior A-final. Later in the season he competed at the World Rowing Under 23 Championships and took silver in a tightly fought battle.

The future is bright for this young rower, World Rowing’s Youth in Focus for October 2013.

I love to row because… I can feel a pain in every session or race. I love water, nature and time with good friends.

My dream crew would be… a quadruple sculls with three the best scullers: Ondrej Synek, Mahe Drysdale and Olaf Tufte.

In the future I want to… compete at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

I would love to teach…Czech ice hockey player Jaromir Jagr…how to row.

My favourite food is…beef steak with french fries.

First 20 strokes or final 250? The final 250m. The best races are when the umpires must use a photofinish 🙂

16km or 10x250m? Endurance is my strength so 16km.

Before I race I always… thinking about life and every stroke I’ve ever rowed in my life. I think about my journey and how I’ve improved.
