Fantastic final day at Chungju

Today's winners included the United States in the women's eight with their sixth consecutive World Championship title. The US dominated the race from start to finish to win by open water. Romania earned the silver with Canada taking bronze. In the men's eight Great Britain broke Germany's four consecutive World Championship wins by being first to the line. This was Great Britain's first World Championship title in the men's eight. Germany took silver and the United States were the bronze medallists.

Ondrej Synek of the Czech Republic took his second World Championship title when he won the men's single sculls. The big surprise was Angel Fournier Rodriguez of Cuba. The Cuban sprinted past the more favoured Marcel Hacker of Germany to take the sole medal for Cuba at this regatta. Hacker took bronze.

Australia's Kim Crow capped off a perfect season with a win in the women's single sculls. This was Crow's first World Championship title and she did it by beating the Olympic Champion, Mirka Knapkova of the Czech Republic. Knapkova was third while New Zealand's Emma Twigg took a well-deserved silver.

Lithuania won their first World Championship title. Donata Vistartaite and Milda Valciukaite took the women's double sculls to the line winning in the last metre over New Zealand. Nils Jakob Hoff and Kjetil Borch of Norway won the gold medal in the men's double sculls ahead of Lithuania. Denmark held off New Zealand to take the gold in the lightweight men's four. New Zealand's silver was the best result the nation had ever earned in this event. Great Britain took bronze.

Overall at the World Rowing Championships a medal spread of 26 nations had Italy finishing at the top of the medals table. Italy won eight medals including three golds. Australia was second and Great Britain came in third.

At the end of the regatta the mantle was handed to Amsterdam (NED) who will play host to the 2014 World Rowing Championships.
