Donated by FISA, the International Rowing Federation, 10 boats, for both adaptive and able-bodied rowers, were given to the Kenya Rowing and Canoe Association. The boats will be used to support the establishment of a sea level regional training centre for eastern and central Africa in Mombasa, Kenya for both rowing and canoeing.

The plan for the regional centre is that it will facilitate the hosting of national, regional and continental watersports seminars, competitions and coaching clinics for youth and various clubs and schools in Kenya.

Secretary General of the Kenya Rowing and Canoe Association, Seif Patwa said the centre will be where the association has had a presence for the last 15 years and that they are in the process of having the land allocated.

“The main users of these boats will be rowers from Kenya who will be training and using these boats for competitions,” says Patwa. “We also have an understanding with FISA that these boats will be used for regional training and competitions which FISA will be supporting.”
The boats that were donated included double and single sculls, pairs and an adaptive single.

Present at the ceremony were officials, coaches, rowers, sponsors and media.
