Andrew Triggs Hodge of Great Britain celebrates after coming first in the men's eight at the 2007 Rowing World Cup in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The rowing trials were raced over a 5km distance and Hodge finished in a time of 18:15.14.

But bunched closely in behind Hodge was Marcus Bateman and single sculling specialist Alan Campbell. Bateman missed out on Olympic selection earlier this year while Campbell finished fifth in the single at Beijing and has been regularly amongst the top single scullers in the world for the last three years. Less than a second separated these top three finishers.

Already Hodge has stated his intention to aim for the next Olympic Games in 2012 in London and he is back in full training.

''I have to put that other medal away, pretend I never won it and do it like it is the first time,'' said Hodge on the Sporting Life UK website.

Success for a sweep rower also came in the women’s single. Beth Rodford, who raced in the British women’s eight at Beijing, finished first clocking a time of 20:05.36. This was an easy four seconds ahead of Olivia Whitlam with Tina Stiller in third.

Leading the lightweight men was Rob Williams who acted as reserve at the Beijing Olympics. Paul Mattick finished second with under-19 sculler John Preston taking third.

Amongst the lightweight women, Sophie Hosking was first in the single followed by Hester Goodsell and Andrea Dennis.
