Using a time trial system to select the final team, Rowing Canada Aviron high performance director, Peter Cookson said, “This is a high-quality group of athletes and we're looking forward to an exciting Worlds for Canada."

Top medal contender for Canada is likely to be their women’s eight. The eight finished second at the Rowing World Cup in Lucerne, Switzerland, and coach Al Morrow has tweaked the crew making two changes. The women’s pair has also been impacted by change since Lucerne with two-time Olympian Andreanne Morin coming back from a post-Olympic break and earning a spot with Krista Guloien. This pair will also race in the eight.

Since winning the men’s eight at Beijing, coach Mike Spracklen has been rebuilding this blue riband boat with almost a new crew. At Lucerne they finished a healthy fourth and for Lake Karapiro, Spracklen has made two alterations. Dave Calder has returned to rowing following a post-Olympic break (silver in the men’s pair at Beijing) and Calder has worked his way back into the eight in time for Lake Karapiro. Will Crothers, 23, has also joined the senior eight for the second time in his international career.

The lightweight men’s and women’s double stays the same as earlier this season and the men of Douglas Vandor and Cameron Sylvester, who took bronze at Lucerne, will be hoping to step up for the Worlds.

Malcolm Howard has reinvented himself, going from the Olympic Champion men’s eight to the single. Howard started off the season making the B-final and finished at the Munich Rowing World Cup in the A-final. Howard also made it through to the semi-finals at the Henley Royal Regatta. He will be a force in the single at Lake Karapiro.
