Christensen is an Olympian, a former World Champion and Denmark’s team manager. At Palomo’s invitation, Christensen joined the conference for El Salvador coaches from a range of codes, sharing the basics of the Danish rowing system including the methodology used for talent ID, training methods, programming and the overall management strategy. He also joined a training session with El Salvador’s national team.

Palomo describes: "Lars has pointed to several critical issues that make Denmark a powerhouse in rowing. The culture of winning programme comes from a very well established club system that feeds into the national team. There are 16,000 rowers and 143 clubs in Denmark. This is in contrast with the much smaller El Salvador which is fully dependent on the activity of the national federation."

Christensen talked about how Denmark uses more experienced rowers as mentors and that all national team members train as a unit. He emphasised that this is something that gives younger rowers the possibility to learn and continue with a successful system.

"In my opinion the most valuable asset we have in our sport is the relations we establish with others," says Palomo. "Hosting Lars and his family has been an honour. Denmark must be very proud to have such a devoted professional, a great athlete, a great husband and father and most of all a great human being that is willing to give his time for others."
