What is sprint rowing?
Sprint rowing is competitive rowing completed over a shorter distance. In most rowing competitions, the regatta distance is 2000m. In sprint rowing, the distance for the City Sprints Rowing regattas is anywhere from 250m to 500m. Sprint rowing aims to make rowing far more accessible as a spectator sport to those who do not usually have the chance to experience the sport.
Sprint rowing competitions often stage the blue riband events of the sport, the 8+ and the 1x - as the events which receive the most attention and prestige. Sprint rowers need strength, speed and power as well as the endurance needed for the longer 2000m racing distance, as they will be racing for a far shorter amount of time. The Golden Blades City Sprint Regatta will be held in St. Petersburg on June 12th, 2011.
